Department of Systems and Computer Engineering
Ottawa, Canada
|
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering at Carleton
University has special strengths in the areas of telecommunications,
computer systems, and the analysis and management of engineering processes.
This is only natural given our location in Ottawa, Canada, a busy "silicon
valley" of innovative high technology companies working in telecommunications
and software development. There are numerous cooperative research projects
in conjunction with local companies. Our location in Ottawa also gives
us the advantage of access to government research laboratories, libraries,
etc.
The Department, as a recognized leader in these fields, participates
in both provincial and national Centres of Excellence: TRIO
(Telecommunications Research Institute of Ontario) and CITR
(Canadian Institute for Telecommunications Research).

The MEng and PhD programs in Electrical Engineering are offered jointly
with the Department of Electronics
and the Department of Electrical
Engineering at the University of Ottawa through the Ottawa-Carleton
Institute for Electrical and Computer Engineering (OCIECE). The OCIECE
linkage provides access to a greater range of Professors, facilities, courses
and research for students in all three departments. The OCIECE constitutes
one of the largest graduate programs in Electrical Engineering in Canada.
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering has 25 professors
plus 10 adjunct professors.
There are approximately 185 graduate students. Our facilities include state-of-the-art
computing and telecommunications equipment and software.
