Updates:
- Congratulations to
- Our best wishes to Brad Shapansky (7:30am Earlybirds) who is
off for the rest of the term due to surgery on Fri Oct 1st to remove
a benign meningioma brain tumor that was discovered during an MRI after his bike
accident in the summer. The surgery went well, and Brad is in good
spirits. Unfortunately, he’ll be without his drivers’ license for a few
months due to suffering a seizure after the surgery. (A seizure is a
common side-effect of this type of brain surgery.) Our best wishes for a
swift recovery, and we look forward to seeing Brad back in the pool in
January! For those who are interested and not too squeamish, I’ve posted
Brad’s “Frankenstein-like” post-surgery photos on the web site: http://carletonmasters.tripod.com/10photo/index.html.
- Some people will go to any
“lengths” to have a good excuse to miss swimming: Jose Vivanco (Whitecaps) has missed over
three weeks due to severe knuckle scrapes incurred in an incident with a
shopping cart, and Mits Kachi
(Coach and 6pm Whitecaps) has missed two weeks after dropping a carving knife on
his foot!
- Here’s the latest update
from George Tombler (x-6pm
Whitecaps): “It turned out that my platelets weren’t as high as they should have
been. So a new series of shots
are now recommended with something called Rituxan. When I asked
the girl (I am convinced that the whole health business is run by
girls, most of them quite pretty) for more information she presented me with a
one page pamphlet consisting of a picture of an old man having his arms around a
young girl supposedly showing her how to hold a golf club. Obviously this is
good medicine! I also had a session with another
pretty girl in the physiotherapy department in an attempt to relieve my back
pain. I like her and not just for her looks: I think she knows her stuff.
Also I went a couple of times to my three-stroke pool but all I could manage was
a couple of lengths.”
- Lucie Boudreau (8:30am Earlybirds) missed a
swim at Carleton a couple of weeks ago, so she tried out the new Gatineau pool
and reports that it’s a very nice pool with lots of natural
light.
- Congratulations to Carla Sowinski (8:30am Earlybirds) who
celebrated her 30th on Sept
30th.
- Congratulations also to
- Tony Pidkalenko (x-Whitecaps) reports that
the St Marys pool where he currently swims is a nice pool but a little on the
warm side. He is trying to convince the pool administrators to lower the
temperature a bit from the current 28C.
