Abstract
Better modeling is a key issue to do system analysis and emulating real system performance accurately. This paper addresses modeling considerations and approaches to be taken for voltage stability analysis. Two approaches, static as well as dynamic analysis are often applied in voltage stability studies, static for small disturbances while dynamic for large disturbances. The characteristics of main power system components, such as generators, loads, transmission and distribution networks in both approaches have been discussed. Modeling approaches presented here will be extended to Shipboard Power System (SPS). IEEE 9-bus test system is used to illustrate the procedures of static approach. Three phase and twelve-phase synchronous generators are taken as an example to explain the numerical methods in dynamic modeling and validation. The time-domain simulation is performed to validate the generator modeling in PSCAD.
