In System Emulation (ISE) of a Current Differential Back Up Protection Relay

Abstract
A new current differential based protection system is proposed for small closely coupled ac power systems such as may be found on the new all-electric ships. The new current differential back up relay is emulated on a processor in a real time power system simulator. The features required in the new relay are developed in the emulated relay and then evaluated along with 2 real relays interfaced to a small test power distribution system running on the real time simulator.
