Caps: Triathlete and x-Carleton
Masters swimmer Ellen Pazdzior has
kindly donated a large number of mostly latex swim caps, most worn only once

Ask the
Coach
Dear Coach:
Why can’t I do
a flip turn from backstroke to breaststroke in an IM? Just Learned Flip
Turns
Dear J.L.F.
Turns: The end of the backstroke leg in an IM is considered a backstroke
finish, so the rules for backstroke finishes apply. In other words, you
must touch the wall while on your back. A flip turn is only permitted from
backstroke to backstroke.
Dear
Coach: Further
to the above, what if I’m racing 100m backstroke and want to get an official 50m
backstroke time? Can I do a flip turn at the 50m mark? Racing
Swimmer
Dear R.
Swimmer: To get an official split at the
50m mark of 100m backstroke (or at 100m of 200m backstroke) you would have to do
a legal finish at that point, so no flip turn is
allowed.
Dear
Coach: How can
I find out if there’s a workout on a date that is a holiday for some (e.g.
Remembrance Day, Carleton’s Reading Week, Easter Monday, etc.)? Updating
my Calendar
Dear U.m.
Calendar: All planned workout cancellations / changes are announced in the
newsletter and by the coaches on deck in the week leading up to the holiday /
chnage. You can also check the web site:
http://carletonmasters.tripod.com. If the
date is not listed as a
cancellation, then Masters is being held.
