The building will be open 8am-8pm Sat Oct 10th-Mon

and the only public swims over the long weekend are Sat-Mon 12:30pm-3:30pm

centre and cardio rooms will be open 8am-7:30pm. (Normal hours Sat-Sun:

Note that if you are
still planning to register for Fall, the 6pm Whitecaps 1 and the 7:10pm
Whitecaps 2 are full (waiting lists available), and the 7:30am Earlybirds 1 has
just two spots left (still quite a
bit of space in 8:30am Earlybirds 2 and 8:10pm Whitecaps 3). Also, for
Winter, there are just 6 spots
left in 6pm Whitecaps 1 (all other groups have lots of space). I will keep
you updated!

Updates:
- Mary Donaghy (x-8:10pm Whitecaps)’s husband
Greg suffered a mild heart attack last weekend. He is
recovering well and is apparently getting bored while staying in the
- Lisa Bromley (7:10pm Whitecaps) reports
that she’s been swimming with Carleton for 15 years, since 1994, though not
continuously. Congrats, Lisa! I started a few months after Alan Hunt (8:30am Earlybirds) who is
celebrating 20 years this Fall, as per the last newsletter. I’m sure some
of you have been swimming here longer than that: George, Bicki, Don, Pete, …? Please
let me know when you started with Carleton Masters.
- Jill Patrick (x-7:30am Earlybirds) reports
that she misses swimming, but that it just doesn’t fit into her schedule right
now. She says “hi” to all the 7:30am swimmers. Baby Simon is a good
baby (always laughing) and recently had his first swimming lesson (Parent and
Tot 1 with his Dad Jose Vivanco
(6pm Whitecaps). See the photo on the web site: http://carletonmasters.tripod.com/09photo/.
Simon and Jill also recently visited Cheri
Reddin (6pm Whitecaps) family for a play date with Cheri’s son,
Eyob.
- Congratulations to Tricia Gerrow (6pm Whitecaps) on her recent
wedding. She just returned from her honeymoon in
- Congratulations also to
Suzanne Lalonde (6pm Whitecaps) on
getting a teaching contract. She’ll be working half-time teaching grade 5
at St Elizabeth school.
- And, congratulations to
Carla Sowinski (8:30am Earlybirds)
who successfully defended her Masters thesis on Tue Sept
22nd.
- Finally, congratulations to
Erin Hill (x-8:30am Earlybirds)
who successfully defended her Masters thesis and has been awarded a three-year
Commonwealth Scholarship at New Zealand’s Auckland University of Technology to
pursue her Ph.D. in Health Psychology in the Faculty of Health and Environmental
Sciences. She will be starting her doctoral studies in February, likely on
understanding women's fear
perceptions of breast cancer and heart disease. Meanwhile she is working

Ask the
Coach
Dear Coach:
I’m in the
7:10pm group. Which Saturday morning workout am I supposed to
attend? New Whitecaps Swimmer
Dear N.W.
Swimmer: All swimmers in all groups may attend the 8:30-9:30am OR
9:30-10:30am workout on Saturday. The choice is yours and you don’t have
to be consistent from one week to the
next.
Dear
Coach: Which
Saturday morning workout is less crowded? Just
Wondering
Dear J.
Wondering: It depends! Two weeks ago there were a few more swimmers
at 9:30am. Last week it was exactly even. This week we had nearly
twice as many at 8:30am than at 9:30am.
