Time Trial and Relay Summary:
The information below on most improved and fastest swimmers is taken from the time trials done in December, and includes the relay splits.  Times done in competitions are not included.

Thirteen women and eleven men improved in at least one event (see list below).  The most improved is Pat H (EB2) who improved her 800m freestyle by 2:22 or 17.5sec/100m!   Others improving by over 10sec/100m were Margaret K (EB2) and Gwen (EB1) who improved their 800fs by 1:44 (13.0sec/100m) and 1:33 (11.6sec/100m), respectively, and Dorothy (EB2) who improved her 25fs by 3.1 seconds (12.4sec/100m).  The most improved man is Jeff F (EB1) who improved his 50br by 4.4 seconds (8.8sec/100m).

The International Point Scores (link to web page below) are used to determine the best swims.  There were 15 women and 15 men who scored 300 points or more in at least one event.  Scoring over 600 points were Keegan, Brandon C, and Trevor (all from the Varsity team), along with John Waring (Varsity coach).  Scoring over 500 points were Judy and Mark B (both Varsity).  The top non-Varsity/Coaches were Don W (WCA) with 482 points for his 800fs and Lori M (EB1) who is 8 months pregnant(!) with 476 points for her 50fs.

The results of the December 18th relays are below.  Thanks to all who participated, especially those who agreed to do only 25m to make the relay numbers work out (that's why some teams have 5 swimmers).  The award for innovation goes to the EB2 team "4" who had their five swimmers of the medley relay do the following:
swimmer 1: 25bk
swimmer 2: 25bk+25br
swimmer 3: 25br+25fl
swimmer 4: 25fl
swimmer 5: 50fs

Ask the Coach

Dear Coach:  I want to swim in the 6:30am Very Earlybirds which doesn't start until February 26th, so I'd like to swim with another Masters group until then.  Is that possible?  Very Earlybird

Dear V. Earlybird:  You can sign up for another Earlybird group (or Whitecaps) and then switch to the Very Earlybirds when it starts for no additional cost.  However, you need to talk to the Athletics office staff to ensure that they keep a space for you in the Very Earlybirds.
