Thanksgiving Monday
There are no Earlybirds or Whitecaps workouts on Monday, October 13th (Thanksgiving Monday).  There is a Varsity / High Intensity workout 3:30-5:30pm that is open to all High Intensity swimmers only.

Thanks to Meet Volunteers
Many thanks to those Masters who helped at the Varsity swim meet on Sunday, October 5th: Francois (HI), Jess (HI), Debby W (Whitecaps), Sean K (7:30am Earlybirds), Brooke (Nightcaps), Warren (Whitecaps).  Everything went smoothly and the Varsity team swam well.  The Carleton men beat Ottawa U 244-139 and the 8 Carleton women did well against 18 Ottawa U women losing only 119-174.  A clip from the meet was featured on the New RO news and a swimmer is on the front cover of Carleton's Charlatan newspaper!

Deaf Pan Am Games (Sept 19-23rd)
John Baxter (7:30am Earlybirds) had a great trip to Argentina for the Pan Am Games.  He reports that most of the swimmers were age 15-25 (he's 41)!  Despite being the most "mature" swimmer, he placed very well, and did best times in most of his events.  Congratulations, John!

Ask the Coach

Dear Coach:  With regards to "Blugged Ub Dose", I find that if I continually blow air out through my nose I don't get as stuffed up after swimming.  Not Sneezy

Dear N.Sneezy:  Thanks for bringing this up.  I should have mentioned this in the last newsletter, as it's very good advice, especially for novice swimmers.  However, for those of us who are super sensitive to the chlorine, blowing air out through the nose doesn't seem to be enough (i.e. despite thinking that no water is getting in the nose during workout, the stuffiness/sneezing goes on for hours after workout).  A nose clip is recommended in these cases.

Private and Semi-Private Masters Lessons
2003-2004 prices for private lessons for Carleton Members are $36.75 for 1 hour, $68.25 for 2, $94.50 for 3, $117.60 for 4 and $138.60 for 5 hours, all plus GST.  Private lessons are also available to non-Members at a higher cost ($52.50, $89.25, $120.75, $149.10 and $170.10, all plus GST, for 1-5 hours, respectively).

For those who want to take semi-private lessons (2-3 students), the cost per student for Carleton Members is $22.05 for 1 hour, $40.95 for 2, $56.70 for 3, $70.56 for 4, and $83.16 for 5 hours, all plus GST.  Semi-private lessons for non-Members cost (per person) $31.50 for 1 hour, $53.55 for 2, $72.45 for 3, $89.46 for 4, and $102.06 for 5 hours, all plus GST.

Fall/Winter times are 4-5pm Monday and 7:15-8pm Tuesday/Thursday, starting September 15th.  Contact Lynn for availability and bookings.
