Biomedical Signal Quality Analysis
Advances in technology, accelerated by commercial electronics, are revolutionizing how we monitor biomedical data; this includes wearable, pervasive, and continuous monitoring systems. These new biomedical monitor systems are fueling a large increase in the amount of biomedical data but also a decrease in data quality, with data being acquired with low-cost (lower-quality) systems, in uncontrolled environments, and by non-expert users. While there is useful information in these data, low quality biomedical data can result in misinformation, including false alarm and misdiagnoses. My research group has been examining ways of:
- detecting low quality biomedical data
- identifying types of contaminants
- quantifying biomedical signal quality
- leveraging biomedical signal quality knowledge in biomedical systems
