PhD, CEng, MIMechE, MIEE, PEng,
obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Strathclyde. His PhD was awarded by the University of Birmingham, England for his work in construction and use of mathematical models for maintenance decision-making. In 1977, Prof. Jardine joined the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Windsor, Canada. From 1980 to 1986, he was Head, Department of Engineering Management, Royal Military College of Canada. From 1986 to 1995, he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. From 1995 to 1997, he was Dean of the Faculty of Business and Information Systems at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University while on leave from the University of Toronto. Prof. Jardine is a board member of IFRIM (International Foundation for Research in Maintenance) and of PEMAC (Plant Engineering and Maintenance Association of Canada). His consulting experience includes devising fixed and moveable equipment maintenance and replacement procedures for a number of national and international organizations.
Prof. Jardine is now Professor, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. He is currently heading up a Condition-Based Maintenance Consortium that is funded by:
